Question by Fe: What Size Wakeboard Should I Buy My 65lb Son?
My son is 9 turning 10 years old and weighs about 65lbs and I want to buy him a wakeboard but I'm not sure what size would be best for him to learn on. I found a wakeboard size chart on the internet. Should I buy him a 130cm for weights up to 130lbs or should I buy a smaller one like a 119cm for weights up to 85 lbs? Or, should I buy something in between 119cm - 130cm. He is also about 4'6" tall. Thank you for any advice you can give me!

my daughter is 62 lb and she rides a 124cm. it seems to do well for her. she is 12 yrs old and about 4' tall. not real aggressive. I'd consider at his age to go with a 130cm because he's gonna grow fast and then the board will be super easy for him. I started on my husbands board 140cm then bought my own 136cm board--felt like going from an SUV to a sports car!

For those of you who love to be outdoors and more importantly on the water, then wakeboarding is a sport you should look into. Wakeboarding is relatively new but will provide hours of water time fun.

If you don't have access to a boat there are quite a few wakeboard parks that are becoming very popular.  Basically, the wakeboard park allows you to hook up to a cable and it pulls you around and simulates the boat and you can practice and do tricks and do the whole thing.  They are becoming increasingly popular as wakeboarding is getting super popular but not everyone has access to a boat.

Some essentials for wakeboarding are the obvious, a wakeboarde, rope and boat.  If you are a beginning wakeboarder try going with a longer rounded board so that you can better learn to be stable and get the hang of this great water sport.  The rounded edges allow boards to gain speed and get in the air, they also make for more stable landings.  As one becomes more experienced you will also need to take into consideration bindings or boots as some call them as they help in the wakeboard experience.

As for the wakeboard ropes they vary in elasticity and length. The length of a wakerope is normally between 60 and 70 feet. They also come with adjustments that allow for the rope to be shortened as one progresses so that they can be closer to the boat.

If one is lucky enough to own a wake boat you can add a wakeboard tower.  It allows you to mount the rope on the tower which gives riders a better pull which in turn creates more air to allow one to try some sick tricks

Wakeboard accessories add spice and flavor to the sport.  You need a handle and helmet which allows you to pick some outrageous colors to fit one's personality.  If you do own a boat wakeboard speakers are also nice.  They attach to the wakeboard tower and you can play your favorite jams or for beginners it can be used to relay tips and ideas.

I love water sports, and this definitely includes wakeboarding. Wakeboarding is my second favorite board sport, only to snowboarding but it is catching up fast. If it is summer though, wakeboarding is my favorite thing to pass my time doing. I love getting better and learning new tricks. It makes me have a sense of accomplishment and I also get that rush of life every time I stick a new trick. I really love wakeboarding but I will tell you what, I am really grateful for wakeboard vests.

Having a wakeboard vest really makes my boating experience that much better, especially because I like to throw tricks when I am wakeboarding. The typical wakeboard vest is going to be much lighter than most other life vests. This lighter weight allows me to get even higher than ever before due to that small decrease in weight. (I am not sure if I am actually getting higher, but it feels like I am!).

These smaller wakeboard vests are also typically less bulky than other vests. This is huge for me. The less bulky more streamlined design of these wakeboard vests makes you feel like you aren't even wearing a life vest. Many of the competition wakeboard vests are so light that they just look like a shell of fabric with padding on them. After having a less bulky, lighter weight vest, I will never be able to go back to the traditional life jackets.

Another benefit that comes from using these smaller vests is that they dry out that much faster. If you have the ability to purchase two of these wakeboard vests, you can leave one out to dry while the other is being used by the other person riding and by the time you are ready to ride again, the vest is almost dry! It never feels good to put on a cold wet life vest!

Whichever reason you have to buy a wakeboard vest, I hope I have enlightened you to the reasons I am grateful for wakeboarding vests. I will never again be able to use a regular life vest after using these lightweight wakeboarding vests!

i am planning on buying a wakeboard, what is the difference between a beginner board and an intermediate board, I'm planning on wakeboarding often and getting air, doing tricks etc so what should i buy?

That's a really good question. When i went and bought my liquid force trip (which is awesome). The guy that helped me said that hyperlites ride heavier and are heavier boards in the water. so i would say they are for more advanced riders. liquid forces tend to be lighter so i think they allow for more control. if you live anywhere near a herb bauer (the only one i know of is in fresno) you should check them out they are really helpful and would have a lot of sales going on since they are trying to unload the 07's before the 08's arrive.

What comes to mind when you consider the extreme sport of wakeboarding? Gnarly young dudes and dudettes flying through the air holding onto a piece of string, screeching in delight/terror as they twist and turn a glorified ironing board attached to their feet?

Yes, me too! Of course the video replay will be accompanied by the obligatory thrash metal soundtrack! Stereotypes are us!

As “out there” and dangerous as this hobby/sport may seem, wakeboarding could in fact save your life! Here, in no particular order is a brief list of things you probably never considered about wakeboarding:-

You have been for a relaxing swim in the lake after a heavy lunch and start flailing around, clearly in a lot of trouble…how grateful you are to the passing wakeboard dude and his/her boat as they rescue you from impending doom. Life Saved! Although in fact the wakeboarding expert is more than a little annoyed at the “” you have created and explains that he is the one that should be making the .

Your previous ironing board caught fire and was destroyed along with all your underpants when you forgot to switch the iron off before work.
