One of the most fundamental qualifications that each and every individual who wishes to participate in water sports must possess is the capability to swim. If you don't have the facility to swim in water, you haven't any business collaborating in water sports. However, because you know the way to swim does not mean you can pay no attention to the basic safety requirements demanded by each and every water sport.

The concept of performing a wakeboarding stunt without even wearing a safety vest may appear terribly romantic and heroic. However, performing water sport by ignoring safety stunts is the dumbest thing that any individual can do. There are numerous safety accessories that are employed by different people possessing different levels of expertise. However, one safety accessory that is common for all individuals- from the rank beginner to the experienced veteran-is the wakeboarding vest.

The purpose of the wakeboarding vest is extremely simple. It acts as a private flotation device and makes sure that you will not sink even if you do swim. There could be people on the ship who might be in a position to help you when something goes belly up. You may not be particularly far from the coast. You will be an excellent swimmer and may be very good at wakeboarding stunts. However, none of these reasons may be employed as a reason to avoid wearing wakeboarding vest

Injuries and accidents do not occur with advance warning. If you get injured while performing a wakeboarding stunt or when not doing anything fancy, wearing a wakeboarding vest can make all the difference between life and death. The time taken for the speedboat to slow down and reverse and reach you could be too long and you will sink and drown before help arrives. However, if you wear a wakeboarding vest, there's no question of sinking or drowning because you shall remain floating on the surface at all times.

Your choice of wakeboarding vest should depend on the following factors:

The first and most crucial factor is whether the wakeboarding vest has been approved by the regulatory authorities or not. In United States, the Coast Guard approves and manages wakeboarding vest. Choosing a certified vest is always preferable over all the other vests.

The second requirement is the wakeboarding vest should fit you perfectly. It should be neither too large nor too small. If it is too tight, it will hamper your movement and will basically increase the probabilities of accidents and pain. If it is too big, there always is the risk that you may wiggle out of the vest and sink to bottom while the vest remains floating on the surface.

The third factor is the weight of the wakeboarding vest. All vests are light when they are dry. However, the vest should not become heavy even after coming in contact with water. This may increase the probabilities of your sinking. The vest should be made from high quality nylon or neoprene. Your primary choice your wakeboarding vest should be neoprene because it is softer, lasts longer and is more snug. Naturally, the nylon vest comes cheaper as compared to neoprene vest.

No matter what you personally feel about its application, never participate in any wakeboarding activity unless you are wearing a vest. This is applicable to even the driver of the motor ship towing the individual.
